The corruption probe involving Singapore’s Transport Minister S. Iswaran has sparked considerable concerns, particularly within the West Coast GRC constituency, where Iswaran held a prominent leadership position. National Development Minister Desmond Lee has characterized the investigation as a “very worrying development,” shedding light on the significant repercussions and challenges faced by Members of Parliament (MPs) in the affected constituency.

Iswaran’s arrest on July 11, 2023, marked a critical juncture in Singaporean politics, as the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) took the lead in scrutinizing the minister’s alleged involvement in corrupt activities. While the specific details of the allegations have not been publicly disclosed, Iswaran’s subsequent leave of absence and the reduction of his monthly pay to SGD 8,500 underscore the seriousness of the situation. Notably, Iswaran continues to receive his Member of Parliament (MP) allowance amid the ongoing investigation.
