  • Stuart Broad Critiques RCB Bowling Tactics After Defeat

Stuart Broad Critiques RCB Bowling Tactics After Defeat

In the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have had a rather lackluster start. Out of three games played, they have lost two matches and became the first team this season to lose a match at home. Despite a commendable effort from their batsmen, including an unbeaten 83 by Virat Kohli, RCB’s bowling department has come under scrutiny, particularly after their recent defeat against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Former England cricketer Stuart Broad, speaking on Star Sports, offered his insights into the deficiencies of the RCB bowling lineup. He pointed out that while it’s essential to acknowledge KKR’s impressive performance, including their sixth consecutive victory in Bengaluru, it’s equally important to assess the shortcomings in RCB’s bowling strategy.

Stuart Broad highlighted the challenges faced by RCB’s bowlers, especially against a seasoned batsman like Virat Kohli. He noted that KKR’s bowlers effectively utilized variations in pace, employing cutters and slower balls to unsettle the RCB batting lineup. Broad emphasized the difficulty for Kohli to time the ball consistently, attributing it to KKR’s strategic bowling approach.

Furthermore, Broad criticized RCB’s bowling tactics, particularly their length deliveries. He noted that while KKR’s bowlers maintained a specific length, RCB’s bowlers either bowled too short or too full, making it easier for the KKR batsmen to adjust and capitalize on scoring opportunities. Broad emphasized the effectiveness of KKR’s bowlers in hitting the right length, making it challenging for the RCB batsmen to counter their deliveries.

Specifically, Stuart Broad praised Andre Russell’s performance for KKR, highlighting his ability to deliver well-executed cutters aimed at the top of the stumps. He explained that Russell’s bowling strategy, characterized by precise cutters, posed significant challenges for the RCB batsmen, who struggled to adapt to the variations in pace and length.

Broad also emphasized the importance of learning from the opposition’s bowling performance, particularly for the team batting first. He noted that RCB had the opportunity to observe and analyze KKR’s bowling tactics during the first innings, providing valuable insights for their own bowling strategy in the second innings. However, he observed that RCB failed to capitalize on this opportunity, as they were unable to replicate KKR’s effective bowling tactics.

Broad expressed disappointment with RCB’s execution of their bowling plans, suggesting that their coaching staff and captain would share similar sentiments. He highlighted the need for RCB to reassess their bowling strategy and focus on improving their execution in future matches. Broad’s analysis shed light on the critical role of bowling tactics in the IPL and underscored the importance of adaptability and precision in delivering successful performances in T20 cricket.

As RCB looks to bounce back from their early setbacks in the IPL 2024 season, they will need to address the issues highlighted by Broad and make necessary adjustments to their bowling lineup. With the talent and experience within their squad, RCB has the potential to overcome these challenges and deliver strong performances in the remainder of the tournament. However, it will require a concerted effort from the team’s coaching staff and players to rectify their bowling deficiencies and compete effectively against their opponents in the highly competitive IPL.

  • Former Pacer Praveen Kumar Recalls Fan Abuse Incident

Former Pacer Praveen Kumar Recalls Fan Abuse Incident

Rohit Sharma is set to make a highly anticipated T20I comeback for the Indian cricket team in the series against Afghanistan, scheduled to kick off in Mohali on Thursday. The skipper’s return to the T20I format comes after over a year, with the last appearance being in the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup against England. Initially, there was speculation about phasing out Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from T20Is, but both have been included in the squad for the series against Afghanistan, which serves as the final preparation for the T20 Cricket World Cup 2024. In a recent interview with The Lallantop, former India pacer Praveen Kumar shared an interesting incident involving Rohit Sharma. He recalled an episode from 2012 when fans directed abuse towards Sharma during a net session in Melbourne.

“I have never got into a fight with anyone. We three were there – me, Rohit Sharma, and Manoj Tiwary. We were at the nets, I think it was in Melbourne. Our own fans abused us. They were Indian fans who were abusing Rohit Sharma. His patience ended, and he shot back at them, and I joined. I am telling you that it is our own who abuse us,” revealed Praveen Kumar.

When asked about his views on Virat Kohli, Praveen Kumar praised the Indian captain for his dedication to scoring runs and maintaining a disciplined approach to fitness and diet. He described Kohli as a “great guy” and emphasized his accomplishments in international cricket.

Moving on to Gautam Gambhir, Praveen Kumar acknowledged the seniority of the former cricketer, referring to him as his “elder brother.” When questioned about the on-field altercation between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, Praveen Kumar dismissed it, stating, “It does not matter if the elder brother scolds the younger one. He is older; he can scold him.”

In another part of the interview, Praveen Kumar shared insights into the practice of ball-tampering in cricket. He mentioned that ball-tampering used to be a common occurrence among players. According to Kumar, Pakistani bowlers were known to engage in ball-tampering slightly more than others to enhance their reverse swing.

“Everyone does a little bit; they (Pakistan bowlers) do it a bit more. That’s what I’ve heard. Now, there are cameras everywhere. Earlier, everyone used to do it. And everyone knows as well. They would scratch it from one side. But you need to know how to use that skill, too. If I scratch the ball and give it to someone, one will need to have the skills to reverse-swing it. One has to learn that,” explained Praveen Kumar.

As Rohit Sharma leads the Indian cricket team in the T20I series against Afghanistan, the focus will not only be on his on-field performance but also on how he guides the team ahead of the upcoming T20 Cricket World Cup. The series will serve as a crucial preparation phase, and fans eagerly await the return of the Hitman to T20I action.

  • Sunil Gavaskar Defends Iyer’s Performance in South Africa

Sunil Gavaskar Defends Iyer’s Performance in South Africa

India’s Test series against South Africa ended in a 1-1 draw, with a mixed performance that left room for assessment, especially in the batting department. While KL Rahul and Virat Kohli showcased commendable performances, other batters, including Shreyas Iyer, faced challenges on tricky pitches. Shreyas Iyer, in particular, struggled, scoring only 41 runs in 4 innings with an average of 13.67. However, cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar believes that focusing solely on Iyer’s performance would be unfair, given the challenging conditions faced by all Indian batters.

Gavaskar pointed out that, apart from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, no other player managed to accumulate significant runs. Considering the collective batting struggle, Gavaskar predicts that the selection committee might be inclined to provide Iyer with more opportunities rather than singling him out for criticism.

“Shreyas Iyer is not the only player who failed because it’s not easy for any batter on these pitches. If you see, barring Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, no one else scored too many runs,” Gavaskar stated during a discussion on Star Sports.

Highlighting the challenges posed by the South African pacers on bouncy pitches, Gavaskar defended Iyer’s performance and suggested that the selection committee could consider the broader context before making decisions about individual players.

The conversation around potential changes for the upcoming Test series against England also surfaced. With Cheteshwar Pujara scoring a double century in the Ranji Trophy and not being part of the South Africa tour, speculation arises about a possible inclusion for the England assignment. Gavaskar indicated that one of the Indian batters might face the axe, and Pujara, given his recent form, could be in contention.

The decision to leave out Ajinkya Rahane for the South Africa tour, despite his impressive stats in SENA countries, has also faced scrutiny. The overall batting performance in South Africa raises questions about potential adjustments and selections for the upcoming series against England.

Gavaskar’s defense of Shreyas Iyer revolves around the collective struggle faced by Indian batters on challenging pitches in South Africa. The discussion hints at the complexities of selection decisions, considering both individual performances and the broader context of the team’s challenges in specific conditions. The upcoming series against England adds another layer of anticipation for potential changes and selections.

  • Pujara Record Double Century Boosts Test Comeback

Pujara Record Double Century Boosts Test Comeback

Cheteshwar Pujara, the seasoned batter of the Indian cricket team, has sent a powerful message to selectors with a record-extending double century in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Pujara achieved his 17th double ton in first-class cricket during Saurashtra’s match against Jharkhand in Rajkot, making a strong case for his return to Test cricket.

The imminent announcement of the squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England starting on January 25 adds significance to Pujara’s exceptional performance. His double century not only showcased his prolific run-scoring ability but also positioned him as a formidable option for the selectors.

Pujara’s 17th double century places him joint fourth in the list of most double centuries in first-class cricket, alongside Herbert Sutcliffe and Mark Ramprakash. The elite list is led by Sir Donald Bradman with 37 double centuries, followed by Wally Hammond of England with 36.

In addition to this milestone, Pujara surpassed VVS Laxman in the list of Indian batters with the most first-class runs. Currently, he stands fourth, trailing only Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid.

While Pujara strengthens his case for a Test comeback, the national selectors are facing a dilemma regarding the selection of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the upcoming Afghanistan series. The competition between the two stalwarts is intense, and as of now, there are possibilities that both players might be included in the squad.

However, a crucial rider might be attached, indicating that their performance during the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be a decisive factor for selection in the T20 World Cup team. The national selectors, including Chairman Ajit Agarkar, have engaged in discussions with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both of whom have made themselves available for selection.

The final decision might involve high-level discussions within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), with Secretary Jay Shah possibly playing a pivotal role. The complexity arises from various external factors, and the selectors are contemplating the best course of action.

Ajit Agarkar’s visit to South Africa during the second Test aimed to discuss matters with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, highlighting the significance of their availability. The selectors must navigate through these challenges and make decisions that align with the team’s goals, considering the approaching Afghanistan series and the impending T20 World Cup.

As the cricketing landscape evolves, players like Pujara continue to make compelling statements through their performances, influencing the selectors’ decisions and contributing to the dynamic nature of Indian cricket. The upcoming Test series against England and subsequent T20 tournaments will offer opportunities for players to solidify their positions and stake their claim for representing the country at the highest level.

  • Virat Kohli’s 49th Century Levels Him with Sachin Tendulkar

Virat Kohli’s 49th Century Levels Him with Sachin Tendulkar

On November 5th, Indian star batter Virat Kohli achieved a significant milestone by securing his 49th ODI century during the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023, held at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata, India. Kohli’s century came in a brilliant innings where he scored 101 runs off 120 balls, ultimately contributing to India’s formidable total of 326/5 in 50 overs. This remarkable achievement sparked widespread discussions and comparisons with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, often referred to as the “God of Cricket.” Many cricketers and fans took to social media to laud Kohli’s prowess, with some even dubbing him the “G.O.A.T.” (Greatest of All Time).

One cricket legend who expressed his admiration for Kohli’s achievement is former Australian captain Ricky Ponting. While Ponting has always been an admirer of Sachin Tendulkar’s batting prowess, he offered an intriguing perspective on Virat Kohli’s feat.

According to Ponting, “There is no doubt he is the absolute best, and I have said that for a long time. He didn’t need to equal Sachin’s record; he doesn’t need to break the record. If you look at his overall batting record, it is incredible. To think that he got 49 ODI hundreds and equaled Sachin’s record, and did it in 175 fewer innings, is unbelievable.”

Kohli currently ranks second on the list of the highest run-scorers in the ICC World Cup 2023, amassing 543 runs from eight matches. He is just seven runs behind the tournament’s leading run-scorer, Quinton de Kock.

With India already securing a spot in the tournament’s semi-finals, scheduled to take place at Eden Gardens in Mumbai on November 15th, Ricky Ponting believes that Kohli’s extraordinary achievement has come at a perfect time for the Indian team. Ponting stated, “That might be a bit of a monkey off his back. I think he has been working extra hard to equal Sachin’s record. That’s done now, and it has happened at a really good time at the tournament for him. One more game to go, and then they head into the semi-finals. It was an almost perfect day for Virat and a great day for India.”

Virat Kohli’s stellar career continues to impress cricket enthusiasts worldwide, making him one of the sport’s all-time greats. His 49th ODI century signifies yet another remarkable milestone in his illustrious journey.

  • India Dominates ICC Men’s World Cup 2023

India Dominates ICC Men’s World Cup 2023

In a thrilling ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 match against New Zealand in Dharamsala, India showcased their unwavering dominance, successfully chasing down a target of 274 runs. This victory marks India’s fifth consecutive win, propelling them to the top of the points table as the only team with a perfect winning record.

While India has faced formidable opponents, including Australia and arch-rivals Pakistan, their triumph over New Zealand was anticipated to be one of their toughest challenges. The resounding victory underscores India’s exceptional form and adaptability throughout the tournament.

Following the match against New Zealand, former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram commended India’s performance, comparing their momentum to a “runaway train.” He expressed his belief that India has already secured a place in the semi-finals. Akram stated, “India is like that runaway train that has its brakes failed. They are going that way. They have the weapons, have the merit, the skills, and most importantly, they know how to execute their plans.”

Despite the challenge of playing without India’s star all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who suffered an injury, the team made strategic adjustments. Mohammed Shami, who played a crucial role in India’s victory, led an extraordinary recovery in the final 10 overs. Shami’s exceptional bowling performance in the last 10 overs resulted in six wickets for India, ensuring their triumphant run.

Akram praised India’s squad for its depth and adaptability, noting that the team can make changes according to the situation, ensuring a robust and versatile lineup. In the match against New Zealand, Shardul Thakur was dropped, and Suryakumar Yadav was introduced as a new batter. Shami’s early wicket in his spell further illustrated the team’s strategic prowess.

During the chase, India found themselves in a precarious situation, but Virat Kohli, India’s captain, exhibited remarkable composure and resilience. Kohli’s masterful innings helped anchor the team to the target, despite narrowly missing out on matching Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most centuries in ODIs. Virat Kohli’s exceptional leadership and batting prowess continue to be a significant asset for India.

India’s exceptional performance in the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 has sparked enthusiasm among cricket fans and experts alike. The team’s ability to adapt, its deep roster, and the relentless determination of its players are key factors driving their success in the tournament. As India continues its unstoppable run, the cricketing world watches with anticipation for their upcoming matches.

  • India Drops Three Catches in Asia Cup Match Against Nepal

India Drops Three Catches in Asia Cup Match Against Nepal

In a surprising turn of events during an Asia Cup match between India and Nepal, the Indian cricket team found themselves on the receiving end of criticism after dropping three catches within the first five overs. This lapse in fielding allowed Nepal’s batsmen to capitalize and score runs freely during the initial powerplay.

The first missed opportunity occurred in the sixth delivery of the first over when Shreyas Iyer, positioned at slip, dropped a straightforward chance to dismiss Nepal’s Kushal Bhurtel. The second incident featured Virat Kohli, who was stationed at cover-point but failed to hold onto a catch, offering Nepal’s Aasif Sheikh a reprieve. The third catch was missed by wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan during the fifth over of the match.

Commentator Ravi Shastri didn’t mince his words when expressing his disappointment with the Indian team’s fielding performance during the first powerplay. Shastri, clearly agitated, criticized the Men In Blue on-air, saying, “Sloppy from India, really! This is straightforward. Ample time. No excuse, though, from the keeper’s point of view. This is as straightforward as it can get.”

Despite the fielding lapses, Nepal, who had lost their tournament opener to Pakistan, managed to reach a total of 178-6 in 37.5 overs after being sent in to bat.

The ongoing 50-over tournament serves as a preparation for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. However, inclement weather has played spoilsport, leading organizers to consider a venue change for future matches scheduled in Colombo.

India’s opening match against Pakistan was abandoned due to rain after just one innings. A win or a washout in the match against Nepal would qualify the Indian team for the Super Four stage.

At the time of the rain interruption, Dipendra Singh Airee was batting on 27, while Sompal Kami had scored 11 runs. Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja had claimed three wickets earlier in the match, and Aasif Sheikh had made a valuable contribution with 58 runs.

The drop catches during the Nepal encounter served as a stark reminder of the importance of fielding excellence in international cricket and left the Indian team with room for improvement as they strive for success in the Asia Cup and beyond.

  • Asia Cup 2023: Anticipation Builds as India’s Virat Kohli Prepares

Asia Cup 2023: Anticipation Builds as India’s Virat Kohli Prepares

With the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup 2023 approaching, cricket enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the performance of India’s star batter, Virat Kohli, against Pakistan’s formidable bowling attack, which includes talents like Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf. Kohli has historically shown exceptional performance against arch-rivals like Pakistan, as demonstrated by his outstanding show in the T20 World Cup in Melbourne last year. All eyes will be on Kohli as he faces the Pakistani pacers on September 2 at Kandy’s Pallekele International Stadium.

Recently, during a press conference where India’s 17-member squad for the Asia Cup was announced, newly-appointed BCCI Chairman of Selectors, Ajit Agarkar, reportedly made a statement about Kohli’s prowess against Pakistan’s bowling attack. The statement, though not an actual response to a question, gained traction on social media platforms.

Despite the lack of a direct question on the matter, a fictitious response attributed to Agarkar circulated, suggesting that Kohli would “take care of” Pakistan’s bowlers. However, this response was not part of the actual press conference.

Reacting to the erroneous claim, Pakistan’s Shadab Khan expressed his skepticism about such claims. Following Pakistan’s 59-run victory against Afghanistan in the third ODI in Colombo, Shadab stated that mere words cannot determine the outcome of a match. He highlighted that the truth will only be revealed on the day of the match.

Shadab Khan was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying, “It depends on a particular day, probably. Now, someone from India or I can make any claim, but those are just words. Anybody can say anything and that doesn’t change or affect anything. When we will have the match, then we might see what goes on.”

In recent times, Virat Kohli has faced Pakistan in T20I contests since 2019, scoring 158 runs in 110 balls against pacers such as Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Hasnain, and Shahnawaz Dahani. Kohli has been dismissed only once by Shaheen Afridi in the 2021 T20 World Cup, after scoring a fifty.

As anticipation builds for the India vs Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup 2023, cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the showdown between Virat Kohli and Pakistan’s bowling talents, and the real outcome will unfold on match day.

Team India Gears Up for Asia Cup 2023 with Yo-Yo Fitness Tests

As the Asia Cup 2023 approaches, Team India is undergoing rigorous preparations, including a closed-door training camp in Alur. A crucial tournament that could set the tone for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, the players are leaving no stone unturned to ensure their readiness. Part of this preparation includes yo-yo fitness tests to assess the players’ physical condition.

Young talent Shubman Gill has stood out in the fitness tests, reportedly outperforming none other than Virat Kohli. According to a BCCI source who spoke to PTI on the condition of anonymity, Gill currently holds the highest score of 18.7 in the yo-yo fitness test. The test, which measures aerobic endurance fitness, has seen most players score between 16.5 and 18.

All Indian cricket players who have undergone the yo-yo fitness test have achieved the qualifying mark of 16.5, indicating the dedication Indian players have towards maintaining their fitness levels. The majority of players in the Asia Cup 2023 squad have completed their fitness tests, with the exception of Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, and KL Rahul.

The results of the yo-yo fitness test are treated as confidential, and players are not permitted to share them on social media platforms. The BCCI reportedly expressed its dissatisfaction when Virat Kohli shared his yo-yo fitness test score of 17.2 on his Instagram story. The cricket administration verbally cautioned players against sharing such information on social media, as it could potentially lead to a breach of contract.

Team India’s Asia Cup 2023 Squad:
