The Chief Imam of the All India Imam Organization, Dr Umer Ahmed Ilyasi, is grappling with a fatwa and threats after attending the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of Ram Lalla at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Despite the backlash, Ilyasi remains steadfast, highlighting that his decision was aimed at promoting harmony, and he has received positive responses from various quarters.

The Pran Pratishtha ceremony of the Ram Lalla idol took place on January 22 at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir, and it was a historic event attended by dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, business leaders, Bollywood celebrities, and other eminent personalities.

Following his attendance at the ceremony, Chief Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi faced a fatwa, a religious decree, for his participation. Subsequently, he received threat calls and messages demanding his resignation. However, amid the challenges, Ilyasi also received appreciation for his gesture of attending the event, emphasizing unity.

“As a chief Imam, I received the invitation from Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra. I contemplated for two days and then decided to go to Ayodhya for harmony, for the country. The fatwa was issued yesterday but I had been receiving threat calls from the evening of January 22,” shared Ilyasi, acknowledging the gravity of the situation.

Despite the criticism and threats, Ilyasi remains resolute in his stance. He expressed that his decision to attend the Pran Pratishtha ceremony was driven by a desire for harmony, both within the country and for humanity. He received a positive response from many individuals who appreciated his effort to send a message of brotherhood through his attendance.

Responding to those who continued to criticize him for attending the ceremony, Ilyasi took a strong stance, suggesting that they “go to Pakistan.” He refused to apologize for his actions and reiterated that he would not resign, emphasizing that his intentions were rooted in promoting love and unity.

“I have recorded a few calls wherein the callers gave me life threats. Those who love me, love the nation – will support me. Those who hate me for attending the ceremony should perhaps go to Pakistan. I have given a message of love; I did not do any crime. I will not apologize or resign; they can do whatever they want,” asserted Ilyasi, confronting the challenges head-on.

The Pran Pratishtha ceremony at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya marked a significant moment in India’s history, symbolizing the culmination of a long-standing dispute and the beginning of a new chapter for the nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with various leaders and dignitaries, participated in the ceremony, underscoring the inclusive spirit that the event aimed to foster.

Despite the differing perspectives and reactions to his attendance, Chief Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi remains focused on his commitment to promoting unity and understanding. The incident serves as a reminder of the complexities surrounding religious and cultural sensitivities in India and the ongoing efforts to bridge divides for a harmonious coexistence.

Private Media Leak: Man Arrested for Threatening Wife

In a distressing incident, a 45-year-old man named Kiran Patil was apprehended for allegedly resorting to threats of making private pictures and videos of his wife public on social media platforms. The disturbing episode unfolded as part of a marriage dispute, where the accused, Kiran Patil, was reportedly having an extramarital affair and sought a divorce. The accused’s wife, a government school teacher, was aware of the affair and refused to comply with his separation plea, leading to a series of distressing events.

The woman had previously lodged a case against Kiran Patil for domestic violence, citing instances of physical abuse and harassment. Despite the registered complaint, the accused continued to torment his wife, according to a senior police officer.

In her recent complaint, the woman detailed how Kiran Patil resorted to blackmail, threatening to disseminate her private pictures and videos on social media platforms if she did not agree to divorce him. Despite attempts to reason with him, the harassment persisted, prompting the woman to seek legal intervention.

The police registered a First Information Report (FIR) based on the woman’s complaint, invoking relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and the Indian Penal Code. An inquiry was initiated, and on December 27, the accused was summoned for questioning.

During the inquiry, when the police examined Kiran Patil’s mobile phone, they discovered private images and videos of his wife. Fearing legal consequences, the accused attempted to evade arrest by escaping from the police station. In a distressing turn of events, he resorted to consuming a poisonous substance in a suicide attempt.

Upon ingesting a few drops of the poisonous substance, the accused returned to the police station and claimed to have consumed poison. Subsequently, he was promptly admitted to the nearest hospital for medical treatment. Following his discharge on Wednesday, Kiran Patil was placed under judicial custody, officially arrested for his alleged crimes.

The incident highlights the complex dynamics of marriage disputes and the distressing lengths to which some individuals may go in attempting to coerce or intimidate their partners. The charges filed under the Information Technology Act indicate the severity of the accused’s actions in leveraging private media for coercive purposes.

As legal proceedings unfold, the case serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing issues related to domestic violence, harassment, and the misuse of technology within the framework of the law. Authorities are actively pursuing justice for the victim, underscoring the need for stringent measures against those who engage in such reprehensible behavior within intimate relationships.

Lawyer Alleges Serious Threat After Accusing MP of Bribery

A Supreme Court lawyer who lodged a complaint against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, accusing her of bribery, now claims he is facing a serious threat to his life. The lawyer, Jai Anant Dehadrai, has sent a letter to the Delhi Police commissioner alleging that he anticipates such a threat due to his complaint against the MP.

In his letter dated Saturday, Mr. Dehadrai states that he is writing under “extremely distressing circumstances.” He alleges that, on Thursday, a direct attempt was made to coerce him into withdrawing his complaint. Additionally, threats of reputational harm were conveyed to him if he did not agree.

The lawyer highlights the significance of his concerns by noting Ms. Moitra’s history of misusing her influence and political clout to intimidate opponents. He accuses her of trying to “extort” his pet Rottweiler, Henry, by filing two “bogus” complaints against him with the Barakhamba Road Police Station in Delhi. Mr. Dehadrai further claims that the Trinamool MP pressured the police station’s Station House Officer to coerce him into giving up lawful ownership of Henry to her.

When he eventually succumbed to this pressure and handed Henry over to Ms. Moitra on October 4, 2023, she signed a letter unconditionally withdrawing her complaints against Mr. Dehadrai and explicitly asking the police not to take any action against him. This sequence of events has raised concerns about Mr. Dehadrai’s personal safety.

The relationship between the lawyer and the MP has been strained, partly due to their disputes over their pet dog, Henry. Both parties have accused the other of “stealing” Henry, and a custody battle is ongoing. At present, the dog remains with Ms. Moitra.

This situation is complicated by the lawyer’s allegations of bribery against Ms. Moitra and the potential misuse of her political influence. The serious threat to Mr. Dehadrai’s life further underscores the complex nature of this case.
