Singer KS Chithra Faces Backlash for Ram Mandir Post

Renowned playback singer KS Chithra has found herself at the center of a heated controversy and a simultaneous outpouring of support after posting a video urging her followers to participate in chanting hymns and lighting lamps on the occasion of the Pran Prathistha at the Ram Mandir. While some have praised her spiritual message, others have criticized her for seemingly overlooking the historical context of the Babri Masjid demolition.

In the video, KS Chithra encourages people to recite the Ram mantra ‘Sri Rama, Jaya Rama, Jaya Rama’ and light a five-wick lamp at 12:20 pm on January 22, coinciding with the consecration ceremony in Ayodhya. The singer concludes her message with the phrase “Loka Samastha Sukhino Bhavantu.”

The post has sparked a polarized response on social media, with supporters appreciating the spiritual appeal and critics condemning what they perceive as insensitivity towards the Babri Masjid demolition.

Notable writer Indu Menon expressed her concerns, stating, “Glorifying a cause that led to genocide is cruel, even if it is inoffensive. Even if you kindle five-wick lamps, no light is going to fill your mind.” Singer Sooraj Santhosh joined the criticism, highlighting historical aspects and questioning the innocence of those supporting the event.

Amid the controversy, Union Minister V Muraleedharan came to KS Chithra’s defense, accusing her of being bullied and harassed. He questioned whether chanting Ram’s name or lighting a lamp was a crime in Kerala and criticized the silence of the police on the matter.

State BJP chief K Surendran expressed shock at the attacks on Chithra, alleging that left-jihadist groups were targeting her for expressing her beliefs. He criticized the ruling party in Kerala for allegedly limiting freedom of expression and urged Congress to address the issue.

Singer Venugopal also lent his support to Chithra, calling for forgiveness and understanding of differences in opinions. He emphasized Chithra’s lack of involvement in controversies over her extensive career.

Chithra, a National Award-winning singer with a career spanning over four decades, has unwittingly become a participant in larger debates surrounding historical events, freedom of expression, and religious sentiments. As the online discourse continues, the incident raises important questions about the intersection of personal beliefs, public figures, and the potential consequences of expressing views on sensitive matters.

The controversy surrounding Chithra’s post underscores the challenges public figures face when engaging with religious or politically charged topics, especially in a diverse and socially sensitive country like India. While the singer intended to share a spiritual message in line with her beliefs, the historical context of the Ayodhya issue has fueled a divisive online discussion.

The incident also highlights the power dynamics on social media, where public figures can face swift and intense reactions from both supporters and critics. The line between personal expression and the potential impact on social harmony becomes increasingly blurred, emphasizing the need for sensitivity when engaging in public discourse.

As debates continue to unfold, it remains to be seen how Chithra and other public figures navigate the complex terrain of expressing personal beliefs in a diverse and socially charged digital landscape. The incident serves as a reminder of the nuanced challenges faced by individuals in the public eye and the responsibilities that come with being influential voices in society.

Israeli Minister Thanks India for Support Amidst Gaza Conflict

In the midst of the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Israel’s Minister of Diaspora Affairs, Amichai Chikli, conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to the Indian leadership and its citizens for standing in solidarity with Israel against the “jihadist barbaric Islamists.”

“We share the same values; we cherish life and goodness. We believe in human values,” Chikli expressed while speaking to the news agency ANI. He further extended his gratitude, stating, “I want to thank the leadership of India and the people of India for being with us shoulder-to-shoulder in this fight. This is not just our war; it is your war too, and with your support, we will prevail together.”

The conflict erupted on October 7 when Israel declared war against Hamas, the Palestinian militant group. The conflict was triggered by Hamas-affiliated fighters’ raids on various settlements and military posts in southern Israel. Tragically, the Hamas attack led to the loss of around 1,200 lives, including both soldiers and civilians. In response, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) launched an offensive that resulted in an estimated 2,300 casualties, with over 1,400 civilians among the victims, according to UN figures.

Notably, Israel has received support for its “right to self-defense” from several world leaders, including US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. However, various human rights groups have accused Israel of violating international laws through its extensive bombardments in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on October 10, expressed his gratitude for a phone call from his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, who provided an update on the situation. PM Modi’s tweet underlined India’s unwavering support: “People of India stand firmly with Israel in this difficult hour. India strongly and unequivocally condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”

Nevertheless, India’s Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement on October 12, reiterating India’s consistent stance on the need for a “sovereign, independent, viable State of Palestine.” The statement reaffirmed India’s long-standing policy, advocating for direct negotiations to establish a sovereign, independent, and viable State of Palestine that coexists peacefully with Israel within secure and recognized borders.

The conflict in Gaza continues to be a contentious and complex issue, with divergent international reactions and a longstanding struggle for a peaceful resolution.

  • Kim Jong Un Vows Support for Russia During Summit

Kim Jong Un Vows Support for Russia During Summit

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s visit to Russia and his expressions of support for President Vladimir Putin’s actions in Ukraine have raised concerns about the possibility of an arms deal between the two nations. During their summit at the Vostochny Cosmodrome, Kim Jong Un conveyed his unwavering support for Russia’s “just fight” against what he described as Western imperialism in the war in Ukraine.

In a show of solidarity, Kim Jong Un assured President Putin that Pyongyang would stand firmly by Moscow on the “anti-imperialist” front. He offered “full and unconditional support” for Russia’s endeavors, according to reports.

During the summit, Kim Jong Un proposed a toast to Putin’s health and the victory of “great Russia.” He also expressed his desire for the continued friendship between Korea and Russia, as well as the well-being of all those present.

“I am deeply convinced that the heroic Russian army and people will brilliantly inherit the tradition of victory, confidently demonstrate invaluable dignity and honour on the fronts of the special military operation,” Kim said via a translator before raising a glass of wine.

“The Russian army and people will certainly win a great victory in the sacred struggle for the punishment of a great evil that claims hegemony and feeds an expansionist illusion,” Kim added.

The meeting between the two leaders signifies a convergence of interests as both North Korea and Russia find themselves in confrontations with the United States. The talks, which lasted four to five hours, took place at a significant location, the Vostochny Cosmodrome.

One area of concern stemming from this summit is the possibility of an arms deal between North Korea and Russia. Reports suggest that North Korea possesses a substantial inventory of aging artillery shells and rockets based on Soviet designs. These weapons could potentially provide substantial support to the Russian army in Ukraine.

The United States has previously accused North Korea of supplying arms to Russia, including allegations of selling artillery shells to the Russian mercenary group Wagner. Both North Korean and Russian officials have denied such claims, but the summit’s context has raised suspicions about possible collaborations beyond diplomatic support.

The international community will be closely monitoring developments in the aftermath of this summit and any potential implications for the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

In response, the Delhi Police expressed its gratitude to the company for sharing its traffic advisory on the microsite, acknowledging their assistance in disseminating accurate information to facilitate smooth travel in Delhi during the G20 Summit.

This cooperative effort comes after a recent disagreement between MakeMyTrip and the Delhi Police regarding an email sent by the travel firm that falsely claimed Delhi would be “shut” during the G20 Summit. The Delhi Police promptly clarified that movement restrictions would be limited to the New Delhi district and requested MakeMyTrip to retract the email and issue a clarification.

The 18th G20 Summit is scheduled to take place in the national capital on September 9 and 10, marking the culmination of a series of G20 processes and meetings held throughout the year among ministers, senior officials, and civil societies.

During the summit, establishments in the New Delhi area, including Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, will remain closed to the public. Specific areas like Dhaula Kuan, Khan Market, Janpath, and Bhikaji Cama Place have been designated as “sensitive areas,” where movement will be regulated but markets will not be shut. Additionally, Cloud kitchens and delivery services will not be allowed in the New Delhi area during the summit. However, essential services such as grocery stores, ATMs, and medical stores will remain open within the regulated zone.

MakeMyTrip’s support in displaying G20 Summit traffic advisories aims to assist travelers and residents in navigating the city smoothly during the summit while ensuring the dissemination of accurate and timely information.
