Massive Fire Engulfs Scrap Godown in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi

A significant fire erupted in a scrap godown located in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi area during the late hours of Saturday night, prompting an immediate response from firefighting authorities. Upon receiving the alert, two fire tenders swiftly arrived at the scene to combat the inferno.

Providing insight into the situation, Fire Officer Shailesh Shinde disclosed that, fortunately, no casualties have been reported thus far. “At 11:30 pm last night, we received a distress call regarding a fire outbreak. Our team promptly mobilized to the location, and efforts are currently underway to extinguish the flames. Thankfully, there have been no casualties,” he stated.

Shinde further elaborated on the nature of the fire, revealing that the scrap godown housed a substantial quantity of miscellaneous items, including wooden ply, plastic products, paper, and cardboard. “The blaze has engulfed approximately 15-20 warehouses, reducing them to ashes. Additionally, several four-wheelers parked in the vicinity were also affected by the fire,” he remarked.

As firefighting personnel continue their relentless efforts to contain the blaze, they have encountered challenges stemming from a shortage of water supply. Shinde emphasized the difficulties faced by the responders, stating, “Our teams are currently grappling with the fire, compounded by a scarcity of water resources. Furthermore, even if additional water sources are secured, it is anticipated to take approximately five to six hours to fully subdue the flames.”

The ongoing situation remains dynamic, with firefighting crews diligently working to bring the fire under control. However, the complexity of the blaze and the limited availability of water pose significant obstacles to the containment efforts.

Given the evolving nature of the incident, authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and additional updates are expected as the firefighting operation progresses. As such, further details regarding the extent of the damage and any developments in the firefighting efforts are awaited.

As this remains a developing story, comprehensive information regarding the cause of the fire, the extent of the damage, and any potential repercussions will be disseminated once available. In the meantime, firefighting personnel continue their tireless efforts to combat the blaze and prevent any further escalation of the situation.

Violent Protest- Swedish Embassy Ablaze in Baghdad

In the early hours of Thursday morning, a violent protest unfolded at the Swedish embassy in Baghdad, as protesters stormed the premises and set it ablaze. The incident was confirmed by a source familiar with the situation and witnessed by Reuters personnel.

Remarkably, no harm was inflicted upon embassy staff members during the tumultuous events, as reported by the aforementioned source. However, the source refrained from divulging further details. Meanwhile, the Swedish embassy officials in Baghdad have yet to respond to requests for comment, leaving the situation without official clarification.

The protest was orchestrated by fervent supporters of Shi’ite cleric Muqtada Sadr, who had called for this demonstration in response to alleged plans of burning the Muslim holy book, the Koran, in Sweden. Such actions in the past have triggered outrage and condemnation in various Muslim-majority countries, leading to widespread protests.

Videos capturing the incident were disseminated via One Baghdad, a prominent Telegram channel known for supporting Sadr and his followers. The videos exhibited a gathering of people around the embassy at approximately 1 a.m. on Thursday (2200 GMT on Wednesday), followed by the protesters storming the embassy complex about an hour later.

As the situation escalated, subsequent videos emerged, showing thick smoke rising from a building within the embassy complex. However, the authenticity of these videos could not be independently verified at the time. It remains unclear whether anyone was present inside the embassy during the chaotic events.

As the situation unfolds, authorities and international communities are closely monitoring the developments in hopes of understanding the motives and repercussions of the violent protest at the Swedish embassy in Baghdad.

The government of several Muslim countries, including Iraq, Turkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Morocco issued protests about the incident.

The United States also condemned it, but added that issuing the permit supported freedom of expression and was not an endorsement of the action.
