According to police reports, the attacker entered the college premises on March 4th and threw acid on a 17-year-old girl who was with her classmates preparing for their 2nd PU examination (physics) on the college balcony. The acid not only inflicted major burns on the primary victim but also caused injuries to her two friends who were in close proximity. Following the attack, the injured girls were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, where they are currently undergoing medical care.

The victim, enrolled in Government PU College at Kadaba, hails from Kerala, as per the report. Eyewitnesses to the incident reportedly chased down the assailant as he attempted to flee, leading to his apprehension. The Kadaba police are actively investigating the case to ascertain the motive behind the attack and bring the perpetrator to justice.

This distressing incident in Dakshina sheds light on the rising prevalence of acid attacks against women, with Bengaluru emerging as the city with the highest number of reported cases, according to data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in December 2023.

The NCRB report revealed that Bengaluru recorded the highest number of acid attacks against women in the country in 2022. Among the 19 metropolitan cities listed in the data, Bengaluru topped the list with eight reported cases of acid attacks on women during the year. Delhi followed closely behind with seven reported cases, while Ahmedabad ranked third with five cases.

The surge in acid attacks underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement of laws to prevent such heinous crimes and ensure the safety and security of women across the country. Acid attacks not only cause physical injuries but also leave lasting psychological scars on the victims, often resulting in lifelong trauma and disfigurement.

Efforts must be made at both the policy and societal levels to address the root causes of violence against women and promote gender equality and respect. This includes raising awareness about the devastating consequences of acid attacks, providing support and rehabilitation services to survivors, and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.

Furthermore, initiatives aimed at empowering women economically, socially, and legally can help reduce their vulnerability to violence and empower them to assert their rights and access justice.

The acid attack on three girl students in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district serves as a grim reminder of the pervasive threat of gender-based violence in our society. It is imperative for all stakeholders, including the government, law enforcement agencies, civil society organizations, and communities, to work together to eradicate this menace and create a safer and more inclusive society for all.

  • Tragic Killing of Bureaucrat in MP: Husband Arrested

Tragic Killing of Bureaucrat in MP: Husband Arrested

A disturbing incident unfolded in Madhya Pradesh as sub-divisional magistrate Nisha Napit fell victim to a tragic murder at the hands of her unemployed husband, Manish Sharma. The crime, characterized by a chilling attempt to hide evidence and mislead authorities, has shocked the community.

The unfortunate incident occurred in Shahpura, Dindori district, where Nisha Napit served as a sub-divisional magistrate. Manish Sharma, driven by resentment over financial matters, allegedly smothered his wife with a pillow. The motive behind the murder, as revealed by the police, was Sharma’s dissatisfaction with not being named as the nominee in Napit’s service book, insurance, and bank account.

After committing the heinous act, Sharma took steps to erase any trace of his crime. He washed Nisha Napit’s blood-stained clothes to eliminate potential evidence. The police investigation uncovered the chilling details, including the discovery of a pillow cover and bedsheet in a washing machine at the bureaucrat’s residence.

The gravity of the situation escalated when Nilima Napit, Nisha’s sister, accused Manish Sharma of murdering her sibling. Nilima asserted that Sharma subjected Nisha to financial harassment and torture. She vehemently refuted Sharma’s attempt to portray the death as a result of natural causes, pointing to a history of physical and mental abuse.

“He used to harass Nisha for money. My sister did not have any disease. Manish has done something wrong. He even didn’t let the house help enter Nisha’s room,” claimed Nilima Napit, shedding light on the alleged torment her sister endured.

The 45-year-old Manish Sharma has been taken into custody, and the police have registered a case against him under sections 302, 304 B, and 201 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The arrest followed meticulous investigative work, considering witness statements, the post-mortem report, and examination of the crime scene.

Nisha Napit and Manish Sharma had entered matrimony in 2020 after connecting through a matrimonial site. Nilima Napit revealed that the family was unaware of the wedding initially, learning about it much later. The couple’s relationship took a tragic turn on Sunday when Sharma took Nisha to a hospital around 4 pm, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The police, upon receiving the news of her death, promptly reached the hospital to initiate an investigation. Manish Sharma attempted to portray the death as a result of a kidney ailment, providing a fabricated narrative to authorities. However, Nisha Napit’s sister dismissed his account, expressing confidence in her belief that Sharma was responsible for her sister’s demise.

Despite Sharma’s detailed story about Nisha’s health issues, the police found inconsistencies in his statements. Sharma claimed that Nisha was fasting on Saturday and vomited at night, which he attributed to her kidney ailment. The next day, she didn’t wake up, leading him to call for medical assistance.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mukesh Shrivastava commended the investigating team for their swift resolution of the case within 24 hours. As a recognition of their efforts, a reward of ₹20,000 was announced for the team.

The tragic killing of Nisha Napit sheds light on the persistent issue of domestic violence and the need for addressing financial disputes within relationships. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of raising awareness about domestic abuse and providing support systems for those facing such challenges. As the legal proceedings unfold, the community grapples with the loss of a dedicated bureaucrat and the broader implications of domestic violence within households.

Suspect in Chicago-Area Shooting Spree Takes Own Life

In a tragic turn of events, the man believed to be responsible for a shooting spree in suburban Chicago, which resulted in the deaths of eight people, has reportedly taken his own life after a confrontation with law enforcement officials in Texas. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Romeo Nance, was discovered around 8:30 p.m. Central time by U.S. Marshals near Natalia, Texas, according to a statement by the Joliet, Illinois police posted on Facebook.

The Medina County Sheriff’s Office in Texas reported on Facebook that they received a call about a person suspected in the Chicago killings heading into the county on Interstate 35. A standoff ensued between Nance and police from multiple agencies at a gas station, where Nance fatally shot himself, the sheriff’s office stated.

The Joliet Police Department had earlier identified Romeo Nance as the suspect in the shooting spree, emphasizing that he should be considered armed and dangerous. The police, along with local sheriff’s deputies and agents from the FBI’s Fugitive Task Force, had been collaborating to aid in the ongoing manhunt for Nance.

The tragic incident unfolded on Sunday when one victim was found in a residence in Will County. On Monday, seven additional victims were discovered in two homes on the same block in Joliet, approximately 6 miles northwest of the initial crime scene. Authorities suspect a connection between Romeo Nance and another shooting in Joliet that injured a man on Sunday, though details linking Nance to the additional incident have not been disclosed.

“I’ve been a policeman 29 years, and this is probably the worst crime scene I’ve ever been associated with,” remarked Joliet Police Chief William Evans during a news conference outside the Joliet homes on Monday evening.

Earlier on Monday, the Will County Sheriff’s Office posted pictures of the suspect’s car on Facebook, indicating that it had been observed at the locations of two separate shootings that occurred on Sunday afternoon.

The shooting spree has left the community in shock and mourning as law enforcement authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the tragic incident. The motive behind the shootings and the relationship between the suspect and the victims are still under investigation.

The Joliet community has been on edge since the initial discovery of the first victim on Sunday, prompting a massive manhunt to locate and apprehend Romeo Nance. Residents were urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.

The incident has once again brought attention to the broader issue of gun violence in the United States, prompting discussions on gun control measures and mental health support. It also highlights the challenges law enforcement faces in preventing and responding to such incidents.

The tragic turn of events in Texas, where the suspect took his own life, adds another layer of complexity to the investigation. Authorities will now work to gather evidence, analyze the crime scenes, and piece together a timeline of the events that unfolded during the shooting spree.

As the community comes to terms with the devastating loss of eight lives, there will likely be discussions about improving mental health services, enhancing community safety measures, and addressing the root causes of such violent incidents. The impact of the tragedy will be felt not only by the families directly affected but by the entire community grappling with the shock and aftermath of the shooting spree.

The investigation into the Chicago-area shooting spree and the events leading up to the suspect’s death in Texas will continue as law enforcement seeks to provide answers and justice for the victims and their families.

  • Police Arrests Notorious ‘Ullu Gang’ Involved in Nightly Heists

Police Arrests Notorious ‘Ullu Gang’ Involved in Nightly Heists

In a major breakthrough, the Noida Police successfully apprehended five members of the notorious ‘Ullu Gang,’ notorious for their audacious nighttime heists targeting tractor-trailers parked on the road. The gang, recognized for using a unique code phrase, ‘aaj raat ullu udega (tonight, the owl will fly),’ to activate its members, was intercepted as they prepared for their nightly heist. While five members are in custody, two others are currently on the run.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Dilshad alias Dilshan alias Bihari, Anis alias Anisuddin, Shahzad, Varun, Bhupendra, Sansar, and Salman. According to police reports, Dilshad led the gang, with Varun assisting Anis and Shahzad in reconnaissance activities. The latter duo played a crucial role in identifying target locations, while Bhupendra was responsible for selling the stolen goods to customers brought in by Sansar and Salman.

The gang adopted a strategic approach to its criminal activities, with each member assigned specific tasks. Despite their individual roles, all members would collaborate during the vehicle theft operations. The accused would deceive customers about the procurement of the stolen tractors, offering false explanations about the vehicles’ documentation. This elaborate scheme allowed them to operate under the radar for nearly five years, primarily targeting areas in the National Capital Region.

The breakthrough in dismantling the Ullu Gang came after the Noida Police initiated an investigation following the theft of a tractor on December 7. Utilizing CCTV footage and forming three teams comprising 17 personnel, the police launched an intensive tracking operation. The decisive moment arrived when the accused were en route to sell a stolen tractor from Sector 24.

The police successfully seized eight stolen tractor-trailers, three firearms, and four cartridges from the possession of the arrested gang members. Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Manish Kumar Mishra shed light on the gang’s distinctive code phrase, ‘aaj raat ullu udega,’ which served as a rallying call for executing their plans. The phrase was used to signal each other when it was time to embark on their criminal activities.

Mr. Mishra highlighted that the gang members carried firearms for protection, deploying them only if the situation demanded. The police are actively working to apprehend the two missing gang members and dismantle the broader network associated with the Ullu Gang. The arrests mark a significant achievement for law enforcement in curbing the activities of this notorious criminal group known for its nighttime heists and strategic operations in the National Capital Region.

The successful operation by the Noida Police underscores their commitment to tackling organized crime and ensuring the safety and security of the region. As investigations progress, additional insights may emerge, shedding light on the intricate workings of the Ullu Gang and its impact on criminal activities in the area. The arrests send a strong message about the authorities’ resolve to clamp down on such criminal enterprises and uphold the rule of law.

  • Nithari Killings: A Long-Winding Legal Battle Ends with Acquittals

Nithari Killings: A Long-Winding Legal Battle Ends with Acquittals

The recent decision by the Allahabad High Court to acquit the accused in the Nithari killings has brought an end to a 17-year-long legal battle that has seen numerous twists and turns. The Nithari killings, a series of gruesome crimes involving the abduction, rape, and murder of children in Noida, have been a chilling and harrowing saga of justice delayed and denied.

    Children Go Missing

In 2005 and 2006, Noida’s Sector 31 witnessed a series of child disappearances. Among the missing were Jyoti and Rachna, aged 10 and 8, respectively. Their fathers suspected Surinder Koli, a domestic help employed by businessman Moninder Singh Pandher. They approached the police with their suspicions but were met with little success. Eventually, local residents and former residents’ association chief SC Mishra were involved in searching a nearby drain, which led to a shocking discovery.

    A Shocking Discovery

The search at the drain led to the discovery of decomposed body parts. Locals and residents claimed to have found as many as 15 bodies, while the police reported finding bones and skulls. Surinder Koli had already confessed to his crimes, and Pandher had mentioned that one of the victims, Payal, was a sex worker he had hired.

    The Investigation

From the outset, the police’s handling of the case faced criticism. The central government appointed an inquiry panel due to the public outcry, leading to the suspension of several police officers and personnel. Later, the case was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The investigation revealed at least 19 victims, with Koli charged with rape, murder, and evidence destruction. However, no strong evidence of rape or murder was found against Pandher.

    The Convictions

Koli was initially sentenced to death for the rape and murder of 14-year-old Rimpa Haldar. He was later awarded multiple death sentences. These convictions faced legal challenges and appeals, eventually leading to the commutation of his death penalty to life imprisonment due to the inordinate delay in deciding his mercy plea. In 2019, Koli received another death penalty. Pandher faced a total of three cases against him, all of which resulted in acquittals.

    An Order After 17 Years

After 17 years, the Allahabad High Court acquitted both Koli and Pandher in the serial killings case, citing a lack of evidence. This decision marks the conclusion of a long-winding legal battle that raised concerns about the challenges in proving serial killings cases and delivering justice. While Koli has been acquitted in most cases, he is still serving a life sentence in one case and has a pending curative petition. Pandher has been acquitted in all three cases against him.

  • Gujarat Police Seize 80 Kg of Cocaine Worth ₹800 Crore

Gujarat Police Seize 80 Kg of Cocaine Worth ₹800 Crore

In a significant drug bust, Gujarat Police announced the recovery of 80 kilograms of cocaine, estimated to be worth nearly ₹800 crore, from the shore of a creek near Gandhidham in the Kutch district. The cocaine was discovered in 80 individual packets, each weighing one kilogram, indicating a large-scale drug operation.

Authorities believe that the smugglers responsible for the cocaine consignment may have abandoned it on the shore in an attempt to avoid capture. Sagar Bagmar, Superintendent of Police for Kutch-East division, stated, “Based on a tip-off about the delivery of a drug consignment, we were already active in this region. During our combing operation, we recovered 80 packets of cocaine, each weighing one kilogram, and worth ₹800 crore, from the shore of the creek. It is possible that the smugglers might have dumped the contraband here out of fear of getting caught.”

The packets were discovered on the shore of a creek near the Mithi Rohar village, located close to Gandhidham town. These findings indicate the extent of the illicit drug trade and the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in curbing drug smuggling activities.

Investigations have revealed that the Gujarat region, especially the coast near Jakhau, which is situated close to the Pakistan border, has been a hotspot for the recovery of drug packets containing substances such as heroin and cocaine. These banned substances are often found washed ashore, suggesting that smugglers frequently dump them in the sea to avoid detection.

Sagar Bagmar emphasized that the packets recovered on this occasion were relatively fresh, indicating that they were recently packed. Authorities strongly believe that these packets are part of a consignment that had been under surveillance following a recent tip-off.

The seizure of such a significant quantity of cocaine underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and intelligence networks to combat drug trafficking and organized crime. It also highlights the challenges posed by drug smugglers who resort to various tactics to evade authorities and protect their illegal operations.

Ujjain Superintendent of Police, Sachin Sharma, provided details about the case, stating, “There is an accused in the rape case. There is another auto driver against whom a case will be registered for not informing the police about the incident. When we were taking (the accused) for the recreation of the crime scene, the accused (Bharat Soni) tried to run away, during which he also got injured, and our police officer also got injured. They are being provided medical assistance.”

He also emphasized that there had been attempts to spread a narrative that no one had come to the victim’s aid. However, the police investigation revealed that people had provided financial assistance to the victim, although more help could have been extended.

The victim, who hails from Satna, had arrived in Ujjain after boarding an auto at Jeevan Kheri. The discovery of bloodstains on the passenger seat raised suspicions, leading to a forensic examination of the vehicle.

The case gained widespread attention after a video surfaced on social media showing the injured and semi-naked girl walking the streets of Ujjain. This distressing footage triggered public outcry and demands for swift justice.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed his resolve to ensure the strictest punishment for the accused, Bharat Soni. He stated, “He (accused Bharat Soni) will be given the strictest punishment. We will leave no stone unturned in getting him punished. Such criminals are not fit to be a part of society. He has injured the soul of Madhya Pradesh. She is my daughter, the daughter of Madhya Pradesh. We will care about her.”

  • Sachin Pilot Praises Rajasthan Government’s Response to Crime

Sachin Pilot Praises Rajasthan Government’s Response to Crime

Sachin Pilot, a prominent leader of the Rajasthan Congress and a core committee member, has offered rare praise for the government led by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. He stated that the Congress government in Rajasthan has responded promptly to incidents of crime and that the law and order situation in the state is better compared to BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot had a well-publicized falling out in 2020 when Pilot, who was then the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, rebelled against Chief Minister Gehlot.

Despite previous criticism of the Gehlot government’s alleged inaction regarding “corruption” during Vasundhara Raje’s BJP government, Sachin Pilot’s defense of the Ashok Gehlot government was anticipated, as Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi mediated the tense relationship between the two leaders.

Pilot also took the opportunity to criticize the BJP-led central government, claiming that it misleads the public and uses religious rhetoric to gain power.

Responding to BJP leaders’ criticism of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who held a public meeting in Niwai, Tonk, on Sunday and was questioned for not visiting Rajasthan after incidents of crimes against women, Pilot argued that the opposition party is attempting to make law and order an issue as assembly elections approach in Rajasthan.

Pilot stated, “Whenever any incident has occurred, action has been taken, and the suspects have been apprehended within hours. Such incidents can happen anywhere, but we have taken immediate action.”

“We do our utmost to prevent such incidents. It is also essential to consider what is happening in other states. The crime rate is high in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, but BJP leaders are making it an issue here because assembly elections are approaching,” added the Tonk MLA.

Pilot also commented, “Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge should have been invited to the G20 gala dinner. If Kharge had been invited, the world would have seen that the country is united.” The G20 dinner was hosted by President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, the venue for the G20 Summit of world leaders.

He went on to say, “Inflation is rising, industries are closing down. Airports, railways, power plants were sold at low prices. However, the central government is busy creating an issue over the country’s name. Both India and Bharat have existed since before.”

“They (BJP) have only one job, which is to mislead and incite people, talk about religion and caste to gain power, and chant ‘Ram-Ram,’” Sachin Pilot added.

  • Teenage Girl Allegedly Stabbed and Abducted by Ex-Boyfriend

Teenage Girl Allegedly Stabbed and Abducted by Ex-Boyfriend

In an alarming incident in Karnataka’s Ramanagara, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly stabbed, abducted, and subsequently taken to a hospital by her ex-boyfriend. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of the girl and the circumstances that led to this unfortunate event.

According to the police, the incident took place outside the girl’s college. The accused, identified as Chetan, allegedly rammed his car into the girl as she approached the college entrance along with her classmates. Following the collision, he reportedly stabbed her with a knife. Subsequently, he is said to have pulled the injured girl into his car and abducted her.

Realizing that the girl was bleeding profusely, the accused took her to a hospital. CCTV footage from the hospital captured the moment when the girl was taken out of the accused’s car.

Witnesses to the incident attempted to intervene by throwing stones at the car in a bid to stop it, but the vehicle reportedly sped away from the scene.

Reports suggest that the girl, identified as Sanjana, and the accused, Chetan, had been in a relationship since 2020. However, conflicts between their families arose when Sanjana’s aunt disapproved of their relationship. This family discord appears to have led to a strain in their relationship, with Sanjana beginning to avoid Chetan.

Ex-boyfriend Chetan has been detained by the police and is currently being questioned as part of the investigation into the incident. The authorities are likely to delve into the details of the case to ascertain the motive behind the alleged stabbing and abduction.

The incident highlights the importance of addressing issues related to young relationships and ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals, especially teenagers, in such situations.
