The fund, rooted in a unique model of Triangular Development Cooperation, is designed to support initiatives that promote climate resilience and advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in third countries across the Indo-Pacific region.

     

    The ‘Horizon 2047’ joint vision statement released during Modi’s visit underscored the strategic importance of this initiative. By facilitating the scaling up of green technologies and fostering innovation, the IPTDC Fund aims to address pressing environmental challenges while driving sustainable development in the region. Discussions are underway to identify potential collaboration on renewable energy projects in Sri Lanka, highlighting the diverse range of initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable development and addressing regional challenges.

He revealed that Deakin University would be establishing an international branch campus at Gift City in Gujarat. Deakin University is set to become the first foreign university to have a presence in Gift City.

     

    Expressing pride in this collaboration, Johnston mentioned that the establishment of Deakin University’s international branch campus aligns with the Indian government and Gujarat government’s goals in the field of education. He applauded the ambition of enhancing education and research in India.

     

    The announcement was preceded by a meeting between Deakin University Vice-Chancellor Lain Martin and PM Narendra Modi in Gandhinagar. The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between government and academic institutions, particularly in the realm of cybersecurity.

    Brazil’s Center for Research and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA) had offered to collaborate with Russia in the investigation, provided it adhered to internationally recognized protocols. However, Russia’s aviation authority has chosen not to proceed with a collaborative investigation. The decision has raised suspicions, especially in Western nations, that the crash might have been orchestrated by the Kremlin, although Russia has denied any involvement.

     

    The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) clarified that the flight was domestic, and as a result, it does not fall under the regulations stipulated in “Annex 13,” the legal framework governing international air crash investigations.

     

    Brazilian authorities remain open to participating in the investigation from a distance if Russia decides to initiate an inquiry and extend an invitation. Experts emphasize the importance of transparency in such investigations, highlighting that an internal Russian investigation without the involvement of Brazil, the country of the aircraft’s origin, could be met with skepticism.

     

    Embraer, the aircraft manufacturer, has not commented on the situation. Concerns are growing about obtaining information from the investigation due to international sanctions on Russia and the reluctance of Russian authorities to allow external scrutiny.

    The SemiconIndia Conference 2023  also known as SemiconIndia 2023, served as a platform to highlight the deepening collaboration between India and the United States in various domains. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, during his address, underscored the significance of this partnership, with particular emphasis on the field of space exploration. He noted that India’s involvement in the Artemis Accords and its efforts to foster stronger NASA-ISRO collaboration symbolizes the progressive nature of the alliance.

     

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence at the conference further solidified India’s commitment to becoming an attractive destination for semiconductor investments. With a warm invitation to global semiconductor giants, PM Modi assured them of a “first mover’s advantage” in India’s thriving semiconductor ecosystem. Micron Technology’s commitment to invest up to USD 825 million in a new semiconductor assembly and test facility in India received strong backing from the Indian government. Additionally, Applied Materials pledged to invest USD 400 million in establishing a collaborative engineering center in the country, strengthening India’s research and development capabilities in the semiconductor domain. Lam Research’s proposal to train 60,000 Indian engineers through its Semiverse Solution virtual fabrication platform is set to empower India’s semiconductor education and workforce, contributing to the sector’s growth and expertise.

     

    These investments and collaborations are expected to propel India’s semiconductor industry to new heights and cement its position as a global player in the semiconductor market.
