Kawasaki India Set to Launch ZX-4R

Kawasaki India is poised to make waves in the Indian motorcycle market with the upcoming launch of the ZX-4R. Set to hit the market on September 11th, the ZX-4R represents Kawasaki’s foray into offering a budget-friendly four-cylinder motorcycle. While the excitement surrounding its debut is palpable, it’s worth noting that Kawasaki intends to introduce only the base trim of the ZX-4R in India initially, with no immediate plans to bring the SE and R versions into the mix.

This eagerly anticipated model, the ZX-4R, takes the mantle of a worthy successor to the ZXR400, a legendary motorcycle that made its mark in the late ’80s and ’90s. The discontinuation of the ZXR400 was primarily attributed to the ever-evolving and stringent emission regulations. However, the wait is finally over as the ZX-4R is set to capture the hearts of Indian motorcycle enthusiasts.

One of the standout features of the ZX-4R is its four-cylinder engine, packing a punch with its 399 cc capacity. This engine is capable of producing an impressive 75 bhp of power at a remarkable 14,500 rpm, accompanied by a peak torque of 39 Nm at 13,000 rpm. Mated to a 6-speed gearbox, the ZX-4R also boasts a slipper clutch and quickshifter for enhanced performance and rider convenience.

But that’s not all; the ZX-4R has an ace up its sleeve in the form of a RAM air intake that can boost the power output to an even more impressive 78 bhp. This additional power injection promises an exhilarating riding experience for motorcycle enthusiasts.

In terms of technology, the ZX-4R is expected to offer a range of riding modes, including Sport, Road, Rain, and Rider (customizable). These modes can be effortlessly accessed and customized via a user-friendly 4.3-inch TFT screen. Furthermore, this screen provides Bluetooth connectivity, allowing riders to access turn-by-turn navigation and receive timely notifications while on the road.

When it comes to the chassis, Kawasaki has opted for a robust trellis frame design, ensuring stability and agility on various terrains. The front suspension features 37 mm upside-down forks, while the rear boasts a monoshock with preload adjustability. Braking performance is also top-notch, with 4-piston dual-piston calipers gripping 290 mm disc brakes in the front and a 220 mm disc with a single-piston caliper in the rear.

As the Indian market eagerly awaits the arrival of the ZX-4R, it’s evident that Kawasaki has pulled out all the stops to offer a compelling, budget-friendly four-cylinder motorcycle with a host of impressive features. The anticipation surrounding its release on September 11th is building, and motorcycle enthusiasts are poised to experience the thrill of this remarkable addition to the Kawasaki lineup.

The South African market recently got a sneak peek of the upcoming Suzuki Jimny 5-door model, which is set to launch later this year. Produced in India by Maruti Suzuki, the new addition complements the existing 3-door version that is already available in the South African market.

Notably, the South African variant of the Jimny 5-door was showcased in the eye-catching Military Green color, which is a unique option not found in the Indian market.

The revelation of the Suzuki Jimny 5-door took place during the Festival of Motoring 2023 event in South Africa, marking the start of its pre-booking phase. Similar to its counterpart in India, this SUV will be equipped with a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated K-Series petrol engine, delivering 103 bhp and 134 Nm of peak torque. Buyers will have the choice between a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed torque converter, both paired with Suzuki’s standard AllGrip 4×4 system.

In the South African market, the Suzuki Jimny 5-door will be offered in two variants, with most features aligning with those found in the Indian version. These features include a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, automatic climate control, cruise control, and more.

Safety-wise, the off-roader boasts an array of features, including six airbags, a keyless start/stop button, a rear parking camera, a headlight washer, ABS with EBD, Hill Hold, ESP, and ISOFIX child seat anchor mounts.

  • Volvo Teases Upcoming EM90 Luxury Electric MPV

Volvo Teases Upcoming EM90 Luxury Electric MPV

Volvo Auto has unveiled a teaser for its eagerly anticipated EM90 luxury electric MPV, which is poised to become the third addition to the brand’s growing all-electric lineup. The EM90, built upon the born electric platform, is scheduled to make its global debut on November 12, 2023. Although primarily targeted at the Chinese market, there’s optimism that the EM90 will eventually be introduced in other countries as well.

Anticipated to share characteristics with its parent company’s counterpart, the Geely Zeekr 009 MPV, the Volvo EM90 luxury electric MPV is generating excitement among electric vehicle enthusiasts.

The teaser image offers a glimpse of several notable features of the EM90. These include dual sunroofs, a sleek sloped front windshield, and a vertical tailgate adorned with distinctive T-shaped LED taillights. The presence of sliding doors hints at a spacious interior, with a sneak peek of the second-row individual seats also provided in the teaser.

Described by Volvo as a family car that offers a “Scandinavian living room on the move,” the EM90’s powertrain details are yet to be fully revealed. However, speculations suggest that it could adopt a similar setup to the Geely Zeekr 009. This counterpart employs a dual-motor configuration with an output of 536 bhp, achieving a 0 to 100 kmph acceleration in just 4.5 seconds.

The Geely Zeekr 009 relies on a substantial 140 kWh battery pack, granting it an impressive range of 817 km on a single charge. Given that both vehicles are expected to have similarities, a similar weight to the 009’s approximately 3-tonne weight could be projected for the EM90.

Remaining true to Volvo’s signature Scandinavian design ethos, the EM90 is anticipated to offer an aesthetically pleasing and functional design. Collaboratively developed powertrain and battery solutions are expected to provide cost-efficiency benefits to the automaker through economies of scale.

Significantly, the EM90 marks Volvo’s inaugural entry into the MPV segment, representing a departure from its SUV-focused offerings. The upcoming model follows the introduction of the S60 sedan in 2019. While its primary target is the Chinese market, there’s also speculation about the EM90’s potential introduction to the Indian market at a later stage. Further details are eagerly awaited in the coming weeks.

  • One Electric becomes the First Indian EV Company to Start Production in Africa

One Electric becomes the First Indian EV Company to Start Production in Africa

One Electric Motorcycles today announced that the company has started manufacturing its flagship electric motorcycle “KRIDN” locally in Africa.

Kenya Production Plant : The company has entered into a JV with a local established vehicle manufacturing entity. One Electric has provided complete components , technology and know how for the assembly of its motorcycles.

Gaurav Uppal, CEO One Electric shares, “Our engineers are overseeing the training and production of our motorcycles in Kenya to ensure our high quality standards. We are fortunate to have partnered with a very experienced and technically strong company, and are on track to complete the first production batch within 2 weeks. This is in line with our vision to have multiple manufacturing locations across Africa & Asia, to ensure our ability to quickly scale, provide high quality products and also localised after sales service. Our 2nd location in central Africa will be operational within 60 days.”

Abhijeet Shah, CTO, further adds, “While contributing to higher exports from India, localizing production also contributes to the local manufacturing, job creation and economy. This creates a win win situation for the whole eco system. Furthermore it creates a strong brand which establishes mutual success as its goal, rather than a simple sales model. This system where all concerned parties benefit, could be the most suitable model for operations in Africa.”

“However, the localization will be done in a phased manner as per the viability of the current industry levels. Child parts like handle bars, stands, carriers etc. are localized firstly, and as the eco system grows, we will look to increase this portfolio,” adds Gaurav Uppal.

One Electric also has plans to setup battery manufacturing plant in Africa by end of the current year as volumes soar. After consolidation in Africa, the company is already in talks to expand into other markets like South America and South East Asia.

The introduction took place just ahead of the Monterey Car Week in California, solidifying the brand’s commitment to automotive excellence.

The Mustang GTD represents Ford’s first foray into the realm of high-performance supercars with a strong focus on racing attributes. Drawing inspiration from the esteemed Mustang GT3 racing vehicle, which is gearing up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans event in 2024, this specially crafted iteration is poised to become the swiftest Mustang ever produced by the Dearborn-based automaker.

One of the standout features of the Ford Mustang GTD is its aggressive design, characterized by a commanding grille and air intakes, complemented by dynamic bumpers and hydraulically operated front wings. The aerodynamic bodykit takes center stage with a front splitter, air-vent-equipped expanded fenders, updated side skirts, an enhanced diffuser, and an imposing rear spoiler integrated with a DRS (Drag Reduction System) functionality.

Ford has incorporated carbon fiber extensively into the bodywork of the Mustang GTD, effectively reducing its weight. The supercar features a carbon-ceramic braking system sourced from Brembo and rides on 20-inch forged aluminum wheels. The tires, with a substantial tread width of 325 mm at the front and 345 mm at the rear, contribute to its exceptional performance on the track.

Under the hood, the Mustang GTD houses a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, delivering an impressive 800 bhp output, as stated by Ford. This robust powerplant is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, and notably, the model introduces a dry-sump engine oil system to the road-ready Mustang lineup for the first time.

Inside, the sporty ambiance continues with track-optimized Recaro seats for the driver and front passenger. 3D printed titanium paddles on the steering wheel facilitate seamless gear shifts. The drive mode selector knob and nameplate, crafted from titanium sourced from Lockheed Martin F-22 titanium components, emphasize the model’s premium nature.
